Thank you for these very clear, well-written directions. I followed your instructions, the formatting worked, and I was able to accomplish my typing task far more efficiently than before.

I would like to compliment you on your instructions' clarity and on your promptness in replying to me. This pleasant experience is in stark contrast to my previous negative bout with Microsoft Word. (When I tried to solve the same problem in Word, I combed through all sorts of user-supplied online stuff and found very little that addressed the multiple-character-styles problem, and nothing I could use).

I first learned of Ubuntu and of OpenOffice in 2006 in the University of Pittsburgh …. I'm only sorry it has taken me so long to begin to use it, and I shall recommend it to every cash-strapped organization and person I know (and there are many).
