How-To: Adjust the column width to fit contents - OpenOffice.org Calc
- It is possible to quickly adjust the width of a column to fit its contents. In this example we will adjust first the column "Mar" or march.
- Do this by moving your mouse over the left boundary of the column like so....
- then, double click on it.
- Great! It has adjusted itself automatically to fit its contents. You can do this on all columns that you want to adjust.
- The maximum width of a "auto-fitted" column will always follow the longest entry in the cell. Watch the action again as we adjust this May column.
- In this case the $18.00 and $21.00 cells are the basis for this column's length.
- Now, when you type in a longer entry...
- ...like this January entry...
- ...then it would be the basis of the width. Note that you will have to re-adjust the column width again as you type in new content.
- Great! You have learned how to quickly fit a column's width to its contents.
