How-To: Define the increment of numeric values - OpenOffice.org Calc
- When using the AutoFill feature for numerical values, it is possible to define the increment of the numbers as they are placed.
- To demonstrate this, we are typing in two numbers. The first number we are putting is 100.
- Next, below it we are typing in 200.
- Note that the difference between the two numbers is 100. This will be the increment that we want to define for the numbers we are placing.
- To do this first select both cells. Just hold the left mouse button on the first cell, then move it over the other.
- Great! Once selected the two numbers will be the basis for the increment that it will apply when we use the fill handle.
- Just locate the "fill handle" on the bottom right corner of the cell selection box. It is the little black square here, click and hold the left mouse button on it.
- While holding the button, move the mouse downwards. A red outline should appear indicating the cells that will be filled.
- Once you have selected the cells to be filled, just release the button.
- Notice that the numbers have appeared in increments of 100.
- Now, you can also define the increments for other numerical values like money.
- Like before, just put in two values defining the increment you want.
- For this example we are putting in $2.50 and $5.00.
- The difference between these two is $2.50, this should the basis for the increments we are defining.
- Now, just repeat the process, select the two numbers.
- Click and hold on the fill handle....
- then move the mouse downward to start selecting cells.
- Once you release the button the numbers should appear in $2.5 increments
- Congratulations, you have learned how to define the increment of numerical values.
