Circumflex Accent
A circumflex accent ( ^ )is a small symbol
that resembles the punctuation
known as a "caret." The difference between the caret and a
circumflex accent is that the circumflex accent is always found above
a character or letter. Hence, it is also called a "hat" as it
looks like a hat above a character.
When found above a letter, the circumflex accent denotes a change in pronunciation of the letter, depending on the language it is written. In mathematics, a circumflex accent above a lowercase letter represents a unit vector.
In OpenOffice.org Math
you
can put a circumflex accent above characters, or group of characters for use
in formulas.
