A Dialog Window is a window that requests additional information about an action.
A dialog window appears when you issue a command that requires more specific information. For example when opening a file, you are prompted to specify the filename. Dialogs that guide you through more complex processes are called wizards.
Some dialogs simply ask you for a confirmation, such as when a file may be overwritten or inform you of an error condition. Those dialogs are also called messages or message windows.
The following screencasts demonstrate how to use dialogs:
- How to open a text document in OpenOffice.org Writer.
- How to open a spreadsheet in OpenOffice.org Calc.
- How to open a presentation in OpenOffice.org Impress.
