Docked Window
A docked window is a window
that is attached to one of the four borders of the overall working area.
The opposite of a docked window is a
"detached window"
.
Especially toolbars
,
a special form of window, can be docked or detached.
This UI concept allows to pull an often used window closer to the area of
work, such as the image toolbar or the find dialog. In other situations the
toolbar can be docked so it is always in the same position, which makes
finding it easier. It is a matter of personal preference where to place a
particular tool and even this preference might be altered in
different situations.
The state of all toolbars, whether docked or detached, is saved with the
last application
window closed and restored when the application
is opened the next time.
