Function
A function within cells in OpenOffice.org Calc refers to mathematical functions that facilitate the operation of a formula. Functions are abstract entities that process an input to a corresponding output using mathematical rules.
One very common example of a function is the "SUM" function in the spreadsheet. Using
this function tells the application
to perform an addition operation to the cells that you specify.
Another common function is the "AVERAGE" function that adds and then divides the numbers
of the cells that you specify to get their statistical average.
In OpenOffice.org Calc there are several predefined functions ranging from simple addition to more complex functions for financial and statistical calculations. You can view all the functions available in Calc by viewing the function list.
Functions can be considered as elements of larger operations like a formula.
