Line Height
The line height is the distance from the baseline
of a line of text
to the baseline of the next line within a document or web page.
Line heights depend on the characteristics of the font used. It is
determined by the maximum height of any character above the base line +
the maximum height of any descending strokes
from the baseline + a margin to
separate lines of text.
The line height can also be influenced by an
image
or object
anchored as character
.
For design purposes the line height can be set to less than required by the
font, creating characters that run into each other. In contrast an increased
line height can add white space
and improve readability of the text.
Synonyms for line height are "linespacing"
and "leading".
