Menu Item
A menu item is an action
listed in a menu
.
For example, in all OpenOffice.org applications,
the help menu includes the items:
- OpenOffice.org Help
- What's This
- Support
- Registration…
- Check for Updates…
- About OpenOffice.org
Menu Items can contain a small icon on the left. This icon is the same as an icon for the same action if it appears in a tool-bar.
Menu items also contain descriptions of a
keyboard shortcut
,
such as "F1" for the
"OpenOffice.org Help" item in the example above. If you use a
particular menu item often,
you might want to learn the keyboard short cut to access the command faster.
Some menu items end in an ellipses "…", for example
"Check for Updates…".
This indicates the menu item opens a
dialog window
to request additional information.
