How-To: Overview of character style options - OpenOffice.org
- This screencast gives an overview of the various character style options that you can change when modifying or creating character styles.
- To do this, of course we must have the "Styles and Formatting" window open. It can be opened quickly by pressing "F11" on the keyboard.
- Now, we are clicking on the character styles button here to view the the character styles.
- Next, we'll access the character style options by right clicking on a character style here, and then clicking on "Modify."
- The character style window should open. It is here where you can edit the different elements and choose options for a character style.
- Currently, you can see the organizer tab is open. In this tab you can set or change the name of the currently selected style. You can also set it to link with other styles, and sometimes assign a style to a category.
- Next, we are clicking on the "Font" tab.
- In the fonts tab, you can change several options for the font of the character style. For example, in this area you can set the font type.
- Here, you can change the typeface.
- ...and here you can change the font size.
- You can also choose the language of the font if needed. Take note that, you can always see a preview of your changes below.
- Next, we'll look at the "Font Effects."
- In the font effects tab, you can change font characteristics like underlines, strikethroughs, the font color and the underline color.
- You can also set other more special effects like reliefs, outlines, shadows, blinking etc. You can even hide the text.
- Next, we'll check out the "Position" tab.
- In this tab you can set several position options. In this area you can set if the characters appear as a superscript, subscript or normal. This also includes the settings for the elevation and relative font size.
- Below, you can set the angle of rotation, the scale, and spacing of the characters.
- Lastly, lets look at the background.
- In this tab you can change the color of the background of the characters by clicking on one of them in this pallete.
