How-To: Create a new style using selected text - OpenOffice.org
- To create a new style using selected text, first you need to format the text to the style you want.
- Now to start, first click once on the paragraph or line you want to format.
- Next, click here on "Format."
- Then, on the menu that opens, click on the option "Paragraph."
- The paragraph window should open.
- Now you can format the paragraph or line we selected by changing its properties using these tabs here.
- For this example we are changing the background color of the line we selected. So click on the "Background" tab here.
- Once the tab opens, choose the color you want as the background and click on it once.
- Once you're done changing the other properties, click on "OK."
- Good! We have formatted our selection. Now, move your mouse towards the "Styles and Formatting" window. You can access the window by pressing "F11" on the keyboard.
- Next, look for the "New Style from Selection" button here, then click on the down arrow beside it.
- On the menu that opens, click on the option "New Style from Selection"
- The "Creat Style" window should open. Click on this field and type in a style name for the text we selected.
- Once you're done, click on "OK."
- Great! Notice that the new style has been added to the list. Let's test the new style we created by clicking on it once.
- Now, click on the "fill format mode" button here so that we can apply the style easily to text.
- Afterwards, just click on the line or paragraph that you need to format using the new style.
- Great! As you can see this heading has been formatted using the new style we created.
- Just repeat the process to format more text using the new style. Congratulations!
