How-To: Enter a Logarithm with an arbitrary base - OpenOffice.org Math
- To enter a logarithm with an arbitrary base, first click on the "math commands window" here.
- Then, once the cursor appears, type in the word "log" for logarithm.
- Next, type in an "underscore" ( _ ). Do this by pressing and holding the shift key, then pressing the "dash" (-) key once. Afterwards, release the shift key.
- Now, we enter the base for the logarithm. Type in an arbitrary base enclosed in "braces" or "curly brackets" like this.
- In this case example are using the variable "b." Type it in like so.
- Next, type in the "number." In this case, we are going to use the variable "x." Type it in enclosed in a parenthesis.
- Great! We have entered a logarithm with an arbitrary base. Congratulations!
