How-To: Enter a Logarithm with an arbitrary base - OpenOffice.org Math
  1. To enter a logarithm with an arbitrary base, first click on the "math commands window" here.
  2. Then, once the cursor appears, type in the word "log" for logarithm.
  3. Next, type in an "underscore" ( _ ). Do this by pressing and holding the shift key, then pressing the "dash" (-) key once. Afterwards, release the shift key.
  4. Now, we enter the base for the logarithm. Type in an arbitrary base enclosed in "braces" or "curly brackets" like this.
  5. In this case example are using the variable "b." Type it in like so.
  6. Next, type in the "number." In this case, we are going to use the variable "x." Type it in enclosed in a parenthesis.
  7. Great! We have entered a logarithm with an arbitrary base. Congratulations!
