How-To: Set the relation "a not equal to b" - OpenOffice.org Math
  1. To enter the "not equal" sign between two variables, first click on the Math commands window here.
  2. Now, type in your first variable. In this case it is the letter "a."
  3. Next, enter the "not equal" sign by typing the "less than" (<) and "greater than" (>) symbols back to back like so. You have to use the shift key when you press them on the keyboard.
  4. Afterwards, type in the next variable. In this example we will type in the letter "b."
  5. Great! We have entered the expression "a not equal to b" Congratulations!
