Creating New Styles From Selections

You can quickly create a new style from an existing style that you have applied manual formatting to.

  1. Choose Format - Styles and Formatting.

  2. Click the icon of the style category that you want to create.

  3. Click in the document where you want to copy the style from, for example, in a paragraph that you applied manual formatting to.

  4. Click the arrow next to the New Style from Selection icon and choose New Style from Selection from the submenu

  5. Type a name in the Style Name box.

  6. Click OK.

To create a new style by drag-and-drop:

  1. Choose Format - Styles and Formatting.

  2. Click the icon of the style category that you want to create.

  3. Select at least one character, or object, in the style that you want to copy. For page and frame styles, select at least one character or object in the page or frame.

  4. Drag the character or object to the Styles and Formatting window and release.

For Paragraph and Character Styles, you can drag-and-drop onto the respective icon in the Styles and Formatting window. You do not need to open that style category in advance.

You can also drag-and-drop a frame into the Styles and Formatting window to create a new frame style: Click the frame, wait a moment with the mouse button pressed down, but without moving the mouse, then drag to the Styles and Formatting window and drop the frame onto the Frame Styles icon.
