OpenOffice Tutorial: Change the tab stop type for new stops.
How-To: OpenOffice Tutorial: Change the tab stop type for new stops.
- Before anything else. Please note that nonprinting characters are shown in this screencast for you to see the tabs and tab stops more clearly.
- Now, it is possible to change the type of a tab stop before you place them using the ruler.
- First, remember that the default alignment for tab stops is the left-align tab stop. It's symbol looks like this.
- So, when you place a new tab stop using the ruler by clicking on a position, the tab stop will be left-aligned.
- Notice that the text has moved in proper alignment with the tab stop on its LEFT.
- Now, to change the tab stop type before placing the next tab stop, just click on the tab stop icon here.
- Note that the symbol has changed. This indicates that the next tab stop you place will be right-aligned.
- Just click on the ruler to place the new tab stop.
- Good! Notice that the text has moved in proper alignment with the tab stop on its RIGHT.
- Now, if we click on the tab stop icon again...
- ..you will see that the symbol has changed. This symbol indicates that the next tab stop you place will be decimal aligned.
- However, since there are no decimal points in this paragraph this alignment is not useful. Just click the icon again to change the tab stop type.
- Good! This symbol indicates that the next tab stop you place will be center-aligned.
- Once you click on a position in the ruler, a center-aligned tab stop should be placed.
- Great! As you can see the text has moved so that it is centered on the tab stop's position.
- Please remember that if you don't change the tab stop type in the icon, then every new tab stop will be aligned according to the indicated symbol.
- So if we place a new tab stop here by clicking on the ruler....
- The tab stop will still be center-aligned since the icon wasn't changed to a new symbol.
- This is true for all new tab stops you place until you change the symbol in the icon.
- Great! You have learned to change the tab stop type for new tab stops.
