How-To: Create a Numbered List. - OpenOffice.org Writer
  1. To make a numbered list out of existing text, first you must select the text.
  2. Start selecting text by clicking and holding the left mouse button at the start of the text.
  3. While holding the mouse button move your mouse down to the end of the text.
  4. Notice that the text gets highlighted as you select it.
  5. Once you're done selecting, just release the mouse button.
  6. Now, move to the formatting toolbar and find the numbers button.
  7. Click on it once.
  8. Notice that numbers have appeared in order for each line of text.
  9. If you still want to add more items to the list first click on the line above the new item you can to create.
  10. Now press enter to add a new item below this line.
  11. Notice that a new number has appeared, while the other numbers on the list have been re-ordered to fit the new item.
  12. Now you can type in the new item.
  13. Great! You have made a numbered list.
