How-To: Hide Field Names - OpenOffice.org Writer
  1. Scroll down to see the "Page Number" field.
  2. The page footer has two fields (the text with the gray background) and shows field names, not field content.
  3. To hide field names, click on the "View" menu.
  4. Select the "Field Names" item from the menu.
  5. Notice that the footer now shows field content.
