How-To: Insert Fill Characters for Tab Stop - OpenOffice.org Writer
- This screencast demostrates how to insert tab stop fill characters. Please note that nonprinting characters have been enabled to illustrate the positions of tabs.
- To insert fill characters, you must first select the paragraphs where your tab stops are.
- Start selecting text by clicking and holding the left mouse button on any part of the first paragraph.
- Next, while holding the button, move your mouse until the paragraphs you want are highlighted.
- Now just release the mouse button once part of the last paragraph is selected.
- Next, click here on "Format."
- On the menu that opens click on "Paragraph..."
- The paragraph dialogue window appears.
- If it is not open already, click on "Tabs" here.
- Now, here you will see the list of positions where the tab stops are located.
- Just, click on the position where you want the filler characters to start.
- Next, choose from the following fill character options.
- For this example we are choosing the "dots" just click on it once.
- Once finished, just click on OK..
- Great! As you can see the fill characters have now appeared.
- Congratulations! You have learned how to insert fill characters in tab stops.
