- To directly open a microsoft word file with writer, first navigate to the file's location using the explorer.
- Once you see the file, right click over it to bring up a menu.
- When the menu opens, move your mouse over the option "Open With."
- A side menu should appear. Look for the OpenOffice Writer option. In this example it is named "swriter." Just click on it once.
- OpenOffice Writer should open automatically along with the Word file you selected. Congratulations!
