How-To: Open a document in rich text format using the toolbar - OpenOffice.org Writer
  1. To open a document in rich text format using the toolbar, first look for the button with a folder icon here.
  2. This is the "Open" button. Click on it once.
  3. The "Open" window should appear. To find the files we need easier, click here on the down arrow of the "Files of type" field.
  4. A list of file types should appear. Look for the option "Rich Text Format (*.rtf) and click on it once.
  5. Now, you should only see the documents in rich text format. Click once on the document you need, to select it.
  6. Afterwards, click on "Open."
  7. Great! We have opened the document in rich text format. Congratulations!
