How-To: Open Text Document - OpenOffice.org Writer
  1. OpenOffice.org Writer looks like this if no text document is open.
  2. To open an existing text document, click on the "File" menu.
  3. Select the "Open" item from the menu.
  4. The "Open" dialog appears.
  5. Navigate to the text document that you want to open.
  6. Click on the file to open, for example "1Write-up.odt".
  7. Click on the "Open" button.
  8. The file "1Write-up.odt" is available for editing in OpenOffice.org Writer.
  9. The document text is shown in the main window.
  10. To start editing, click anywhere in the main window.
