Save New Text Document - OpenOffice.org Writer

How-To: Save New Text Document - OpenOffice.org Writer
  1. Start with a new text-document, as indicated by the word "Untitled" in the window title.
  2. To save this document, click on the "File" menu.
  3. Select the "Save" item from the menu.
  4. Because this is a new document that has never been saved before, automatically the "Save As" dialog appears.
  5. Use the shortcuts on the left to navigate to "places" on your computer. Here we choose "My Documents".
  6. To create a new folder under "My Documents", click the "Create New Folder" button on the toolbar at the top.
  7. A "New Folder" appears in the list. It is automatically ready to change it's name.
  8. Start typing a new name for the "New Folder".
  9. Finish with the "Enter" key.
  10. To open the folder, double click on the icon.
  11. Now we are inside the new folder "OpenOffice-Writer".
  12. To give the document a file name, click in the field "File Name:".
  13. Type a name for the document.
  14. Normally you want to leave the document type at the default which is the "OpenDocument Text" (file extension ".odt").
  15. To save the document and close the dialog, click the "Save" button.
  16. Watch the progress indicator while Writer is saving the document.
  17. To confirm the document has been saved, check that the new name appears in the window title.
