How-To: Save a text document with password protection - OpenOffice.org Writer
  1. To protect a document with a password, first with the document open, click on the "file" option here.
  2. Next, on the menu that opens, click on the option "Save As..."
  3. Once the save as window opens, look for the checkbox marked "Save with password."
  4. Click on it once to protect the document with a password.
  5. Afterwards, just decide on the filename and click on "Save."

  7. Since we used the same file name you may be asked if you want to overwrite the original unprotected file. Click on "yes" to continue.
  8. Next, you will be asked to enter the password you want to use. Just type it on the field provided, and then repeat it on the confirmation field.
  9. Once done, click on "OK."
  10. Great! We have protected this document with a password. Congratulations!
